Summertime in Denver is all about the outdoors. Denverites spend these months making the most of the plentiful sunshine and copious fresh air — hiking, biking and enjoying a host of live music extravaganzas, from Red Rocks Amphitheatre to City Park Jazz.

No summer in Denver is complete without at least one — or two, or five — trips to the awe-inspiring Red Rocks Amphitheatre, just 15 miles from downtown Denver. More than 70 million years in the making, the 9,450-seat venue is flanked by enormous 300-foot red sandstone rock formations and always boasts a star-studded musical schedule.

The Westword Music Showcase will return to the RiNo Art District this September, filling the area with music from local and national acts alike in the city’s longest-running celebration of the scene. From the first Showcase in LoDo in 1995 to big bashes in the Golden Triangle a decade later to our current festivals in RiNo, the Showcase has only gotten bigger and better. Friday's music events are all free and feature more than 50 of Denver’s best bands, live painting, interactive art and offerings from the best food trucks in the city.

The free, family-oriented Annual Highlands Ranch Music Arts Festival will fill Civic Green Park with entertainment, arts, a festival marketplace and activities. Bring a blanket and folding chairs and enjoy! The Highlands Ranch Concert Band, an organization of volunteer professional, amateur and high school musicians, provides free concerts throughout the year, is the organizer/promoter of the festival. Music will include a wide range of styles, including jazz, swing and concert music. The Festival Marketplace will offer items by artists, craftsmen and food vendors.

Colorado's detox music fest returns for its second year! Explore healthy nightlife in Downtown Denver at this music and mindfulness festival. Experience immersive music and mindfulness, dance party DJ sets, a sober bar by SPIRIT, meditation, non-alcoholic tasting lounges, art-scapes and live painting, wellness IV drips and radical healing, food trucks, performance art, artists and a vendor village.

Head to Levitt Pavilion Denver for a night of free music at the Viva Southwest Mariachi Festival!
Grab a blanket and take a seat on the lawn or buy a reserved seat at this beautiful venue just south of Denver in Greenwood Village. Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre has a variety of acts coming up this spring and summer.
The Levitt Pavilion is a state-of-the-art amphitheater in Ruby Hill Park that was created as a gift to the community. This outdoor venue hosts a slew of free concerts every summer, and a few ticketed events, too. Bring a blanket and a picnic, kick back on the lawn and enjoy artists from a wide range of genres.
The Arvada Center's outdoor amphitheater offers exceptional acoustics in an intimate setting perfect for enjoying live music featuring national and local artists. The amphitheater features a weather-friendly covered seating area with close-up views of the stage and delicious concessions including burgers, sandwiches, beer and wine. And on Wednesday evenings from July to September, the Front Porch Series presents local solo and duet musical acts, food and brews in a shady, beer-garden setting on the front plaza.

Head to the urban oasis that is Denver Botanic Gardens for Evenings al Fresco on select Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30–8:30 p.m., in June and August. Unlike a traditional concert setting, visitors strolling through the Gardens encounter small ensembles or musicians performing works designed to underscore and bring delight to their evening visit. Timed tickets must be purchased in advance; tickets are limited in each time slot.

Mile High Station is bringing The Mile High City their Mile High Music Series yet again. Enjoy live outdoor music performances, drink specials, food from Scratch Catering’s mobile kitchen and an unforgettable night under the lights. Denver Botanic Gardens' popular Music at the Gardens series is back after a two-year hiatus! Shows in the UMB Bank Amphitheater feature national, award-winning musicians. Concerts start at 6:30 p.m. at the York Street location.

Central Park has not one but TWO outdoor concert venues! Dance 'til you drop or just sit back and relax as some of Denver's most well-known brands hit the stage for Concerts on the Green at Founders Green and MoJaBlu Concerts at Conservatory Green. Either way, it's a great way for the whole family to enjoy music under the stars. Concerts on the Green start at 6 p.m. and MoJaBlu concerts start at 6:30 p.m. and both are free to attend. Come early and buy some tasty treats from one of the many food trucks!

Pack up some picnic provisions (and your family) and bring them to the Shady Grove Picnic Series at Four Mile Historic Park on select Thursday evenings for shows that begin at 6:30 p.m. (doors 5:30 p.m.). This summer tradition has been going on for almost two decades!

The City Park Bandstand and Pavilion turns into a swinging, open-air jazz club on Sundays from 6–8 p.m., as music lovers of all ages congregate for City Park Jazz. Bring a blanket or folding chair — but be prepared to spend plenty of time on your feet, too. City Park Jazz encourages dancing. Best of all, these concerts are free.
