Denver Chalk Art Festival

"Theater of the Mind" from Denver Center for Performing Arts will take audience members through an immersive journey in a 15,000-square-foot historic warehouse within the adaptive reuse campus of  York Street Yards in the Clayton neighborhood. Audiences will explore how they perceive the world through sensory experiments that reveal the inner mysteries of the brain as they are led by a Guide whose stories are inspired by the creators' lives. It's a journey of self-reflection, discovery and imagination, inspired by and grounded in neuroscience, co-created by Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and writer Mala Gaonkar.

After the death of Michael Brown, The Ferguson Unrest shook the nation to its core and put a spotlight on police brutality and discrimination. Fashion Designs of Carla Fernández

This is the first exhibition to fully explore the career of Mexican artist and fashion designer Carla Fernández, founder of the eponymous fashion brand. The acclaimed Mexico City-based fashion brand Carla Fernández (established in 2000) is a couture house that aims to bring new meaning to the luxury world as an agent of social and ethical change and innovation.

La Musidora

Take part in this interactive outdoor art installation this summer on Martin Plaza, located near the museum's Hamilton Building entrance. La Musidora is a combination of the Spanish words "la música" (music) and "la mecedora" (rocking chair). Make musical sounds by gently rocking colorfully woven chairs in tandem. This 90-foot artwork, designed by Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena of the interdisciplinary design firm Esrawe + Cadena in Mexico City, seats a total of 20 visitors at a time.

Jurassic World: The Exhibition

This immersive 20,000-square-foot experience is based on one of the biggest blockbusters in cinema history. Visitors will walk through the world-famous “Jurassic World” gates, encounter life-sized dinosaurs and explore richly themed environments. Get an up-close look at a Velociraptor, stand in awe under a towering Brachiosaurus and encounter the most fearsome of them all, the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex. 

The Dr. Seuss Experience

The Dr. Seuss Experience is an imaginative and interactive immersion into the wondrous world of Dr. Seuss! This spectacular sensory spectacle takes each guest on an awe-inspiring journey through nine different Dr. Seuss books, allowing each visitor a chance to magically step into the pages of each of the books.

Age of Armor: Treasures from the Higgins Collection at the Worcester Art Museum

Age of Armor examines the historical context of armor and the pragmatic functions it served, as well as the ideological sentiments about armor throughout time, from the Middle Ages into the modern era. The exhibition will feature more than 80 objects from the Higgins Collection, supplemented by several pieces from the DAM’s own collections. These works will encourage visitors to consider how the legacy of armor and the cultural meanings it reflects have endured through time, influencing modern artwork, and, in some cases, challenging traditional histories and ideals.

Building Denver: Visions of the Capital City

Tour this time-traveling exhibition with a captivating expert and see The Mile High City in a whole new light! Building Denver: Visions of the Capital City explores the growth, urban development and architecture of Denver from 1860 to today. Throughout 3,000 interactive square feet, the exhibition reveals how civic leaders, designers and residents have steadily worked to bring their own visions for Denver to life.

Ursula von Rydingsvard: The Contour of Feeling

This is an ambitious celebration of one of the most influential sculptors working today! Von Rydingsvard is renowned for her towering cedar and bronze public outdoor sculptures; this exhibition provides a unique, indoor opportunity to experience a large collection of cedar sculptures and works on paper. Additionally, one outdoor sculpture made of resin will be presented. 

Impermanence and Light

Julie Vaught's new work explores the play of light as both a source of imagery within a painting, an external source and a metaphorical light of our human soul. The interaction of video art with a static painting create an ever-changing reality for the viewer. Through mixed media, photography, paint and video art she takes us on a visual journey of healing from abuse and trauma as a female in today's society. Her work explores the imagination and fantasy as an expression of feminine beauty and power. The artist explores the idea that our ability to heal stems from embracing both the darkness and the light within us.

Working in acrylic on canvas, Richard Neff expands on the concept of geometric shapes in every dimension. Big and bold in size and color, his canvases feature impossible interactions between form and mind. Neff is an absolute master of detail and illusion.  It is hard to believe these are hand painted pieces, they look like the work of some sentient computer.  Wile engaging with this work, you can’t help but feel you are inside an alternate universe where mathematical perfection obliterates human frailty and doubt. 

Verse: The Art of the Future

Verse: The Art of the Future is an exhibition featuring augmented reality holograms and artwork. Industry Standard

Artists Meggan Gould and Andy Mattern explore different photographic guidelines and tools in this exhibition to push the boundaries of what we think of as a photograph. Mattern, inspired by once-popular "Kodaguides" and original desktop patterns found on early Apple computers, delivers new images that don't fit neatly within the box of the medium. Gould's work infuses flexibility into the often rigid structures of photography by freeing pigmented ink from the printer into other objects, like thread that is then used for stitching. Together, Gould and Mattern create a visual conversation about how photographic tools and conventions can be rethought in order to expand the notions of what we can expect and accept from the medium.

Heroine of the Titanic

Commemorate 110 years since the sinking of the RMS Titanic. The exhibit brings survivors’ memories of that fateful night to life – including those of Margaret "Molly" Brown. She was not known as “Unsinkable” during her lifetime, but instead as the “Heroine of the Titanic.” Learn about the tragedy through Margaret’s many Titanic interviews including her first one, given when she was still on board the rescue ship.

Banana Craze & Cultivate

CVA brings two extraordinary exhibitions to view with the opening of Banana Craze, a look at how one fruit has shaped the culture and environment of a continent, and Cultivate, an exploration of food access in Colorado. The Center on Colfax Open Art Studio’s Exhibition

Fantastic Brush: Twentieth-Century Chinese Ink Art from the Robert and Lisa Kessler Collection

The 23 ink paintings featured in this exhibit showcase some of the most important artists in twentieth-century China, including Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Wu Changshuo and Wu Guanzhong. The collection includes examples by teachers and students, friends and colleagues. The artists come from very different backgrounds: some traveled to Europe to study Western art, some went to Japan to study Japanese art and Western art as filtered through Japanese experience, and others never went abroad. Nevertheless, all were well versed in traditional Chinese ink art.

Gio Ponti: Designer of a Thousand Talents

Gio Ponti was one of the most inventive Italian architects and designers of his time. Frank Lloyd Wright: Inside the Walls

Memory Mirror

Lares Feliciano's Memory Mirror is an immersive installation that invites visitors to explore their relationship with memory through animation, dioramas and interactive storytelling. Designed to evoke the memory of a relative's living room, this exhibition will transform the museum's Precourt Family Discovery Hall into a surreal domestic den that is both familiar and fantastic.

Who tells a tale adds a tail: Latin America and contemporary art

This exhibit features mostly site-specific, commissioned artworks by emerging artists in dialogue with the unique architecture of the DAM's Hamilton Building. The 19 participating millennial-generation artists from countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Mexico have developed work that creates new worlds and realities, inviting spectators to engage in narratives through a multitude of media: painting, sculpture, installation, textile, video, sound, digital and performance art.

Benefitting the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, events include a full day’s lineup of performers, demonstrations, booths and activities for the entire family. Admission, parking, a hayride shuttle to/from the parking area, live musical entertainment and ice cream all are free of charge.
