La Musidora

Take part in this interactive outdoor art installation this summer on Martin Plaza, located near the museum's Hamilton Building entrance. La Musidora is a combination of the Spanish words "la música" (music) and "la mecedora" (rocking chair). Make musical sounds by gently rocking colorfully woven chairs in tandem. This 90-foot artwork, designed by Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena of the interdisciplinary design firm Esrawe + Cadena in Mexico City, seats a total of 20 visitors at a time.

Jurassic World: The Exhibition

This immersive 20,000-square-foot experience is based on one of the biggest blockbusters in cinema history. Age of Armor: Treasures from the Higgins Collection at the Worcester Art Museum

Age of Armor examines the historical context of armor and the pragmatic functions it served, as well as the ideological sentiments about armor throughout time, from the Middle Ages into the modern era. The exhibition will feature more than 80 objects from the Higgins Collection, supplemented by several pieces from the DAM’s own collections. These works will encourage visitors to consider how the legacy of armor and the cultural meanings it reflects have endured through time, influencing modern artwork, and, in some cases, challenging traditional histories and ideals.

Ursula von Rydingsvard: The Contour of Feeling

Additionally, one outdoor sculpture made of resin will be presented. 

Impermanence and Light

Julie Vaught's new work explores the play of light as both a source of imagery within a painting, an external source and a metaphorical light of our human soul. The interaction of video art with a static painting create an ever-changing reality for the viewer. Through mixed media, photography, paint and video art she takes us on a visual journey of healing from abuse and trauma as a female in today's society. Her work explores the imagination and fantasy as an expression of feminine beauty and power. The artist explores the idea that our ability to heal stems from embracing both the darkness and the light within us.

Working in acrylic on canvas, Richard Neff expands on the concept of geometric shapes in every dimension. Big and bold in size and color, his canvases feature impossible interactions between form and mind. Neff is an absolute master of detail and illusion.  It is hard to believe these are hand painted pieces, they look like the work of some sentient computer.  Wile engaging with this work, you can’t help but feel you are inside an alternate universe where mathematical perfection obliterates human frailty and doubt.

Artists Meggan Gould and Andy Mattern explore different photographic guidelines and tools in this exhibition to push the boundaries of what we think of as a photograph. Mattern, inspired by once-popular "Kodaguides" and original desktop patterns found on early Apple computers, delivers new images that don't fit neatly within the box of the medium. Gould's work infuses flexibility into the often rigid structures of photography by freeing pigmented ink from the printer into other objects, like thread that is then used for stitching. Together, Gould and Mattern create a visual conversation about how photographic tools and conventions can be rethought in order to expand the notions of what we can expect and accept from the medium.

Heroine of the Titanic

Fantastic Brush: Twentieth-Century Chinese Ink Art from the Robert and Lisa Kessler Collection

The 23 ink paintings featured in this exhibit showcase some of the most important artists in twentieth-century China, including Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Wu Changshuo and Wu Guanzhong. The collection includes examples by teachers and students, friends and colleagues. The artists come from very different backgrounds: some traveled to Europe to study Western art, some went to Japan to study Japanese art and Western art as filtered through Japanese experience, and others never went abroad. Nevertheless, all were well versed in traditional Chinese ink art.

Gio Ponti: Designer of a Thousand Talents

Who tells a tale adds a tail: Latin America and contemporary art

Benefitting the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, events include a full day’s lineup of performers, demonstrations, booths and activities for the entire family. Admission, parking, a hayride shuttle to/from the parking area, live musical entertainment and ice cream all are free of charge.
